AKUPUNKTUR memang bukan sekedar pengobatan dengan menusukkan jarum dipermukaan tubuh. Akupunktur merupakan suatu teknik pengobatan yang memanipulasi titik-titik tertentu di tubuh kita secara mekanik menggunakan jarum untuk mencapai tujuan pengobatan yang diinginkan.
Kata Akupunktur sebenarnya bukan berasal dari daratan Cina, namun berasal dari bahasa Latin yang dipopulerkan di sekitar tahun 60-an. Kata Akupunktur terdiri dari dua kata "Acus" yang berarti "Jarum" dan "Pungere" yang berarti "Menusuk(kan)".
Pengobatan Akupunktur sendiri berasal dari daratan Cina dan merupakan bagian dari sistem Pengobatan Cina Tradisional (Traditional Chinese Medicine).
